After Workout Care for Men

A guest blog by Peter Minkoff.

All men that train know how sweaty and dirty our whole body gets after an intense workout. It doesn’t matter if you just lifted weights for an hour or sparred with a friend in the ring, every part of your body will be soaking wet. Now, sweating is good for your health, but staying sweaty afterward can cause some serious skin conditions, like rashes, infections and not to mention that the smell is unbearable.

Everybody knows that you need to take a shower after every workout, but that is not enough. Beard, hair, and your workout clothes need to be thoroughly cleaned, too. In this article, we will go over some tips on how to properly care for your whole body after gym and other workouts.

Beard care

Firstly, let’s talk about the beard. All men that rock the facial hair already know how to properly take care of it. Beard oils are nothing new to them and they are already used to grooming and getting everything clean and tidy in that area. But what most men don’t realize is that even after a workout you should do the grooming ritual.

Of course, you don’t need to trim your beard, but what you absolutely need to do is to put on some beard oil or balm after you have taken a shower. After you have washed all the sweat out of your beard and dried it up, rub in some oil or balm to nourish your beard back to full health.

Skincare

The next up is skincare. If you want to avoid acne and infections, then you will need to follow our tips carefully. The first mistake a lot of men make is wiping their face with dirty towels or hands. This is an absolute no if you care for the health of your skin. The solution is easy, pack a clean towel that you will use only for wiping your sweat after a workout.

Also, get out of your workout clothes as soon as possible and take a shower. A lot of people like to recommend expensive shower gels, but honestly, it doesn’t matter. Sure, there are some benefits with higher quality ones, but after your training, you just need a quick shower to clean your body. The one thing that you should add to your skincare routine is a moisturizer. This product will keep your skin hydrated and protect it from environmental damage.

Washing and cleaning your gym equipment

Washing your gym clothes and equipment is a necessary step if you want to avoid infections and rashes. Most of the time, men practice in cotton shirts and ordinary shorts, but that is not the smartest idea. Because our workout gear is in constant contact with our skin, it is best to use clothes that are made of specialized workout materials. These materials will pull away the sweat from your body to the exterior where it can evaporate easily.

If you are able to get some moisture wicking fitness clothes they will do just that. With gear like this, your skin will remain dry and healthy even after you run a marathon. And on top of that, they are easy to maintain and clean. Because they don’t soak up your sweat, moisture wicking fabrics require little to no cleaning.

And that is all from us. As you can see there are a couple more steps when it comes to cleaning your body after a workout. Just don’t forget to clean your beard, moisturize your skin and acquire proper fitness gear.
